HTC and Shenzhen Invests $1.5B for VR

Seems Shenzhen will soon be a VR fan’s dream source for hardware. HTC has partnered up with the Shenzhen Municipal government to the tune of $1.5 billion to create a VR investment fund.

The goal is to accelerate VR industry in China, and to facilitate this, the China VR Research Institute has been created to oversee the effort. This is a natural progression for the Taiwan based HTC, which has strong ties with Shenzhen industry, seeing how most of the world’s cellphones and other electronics are still produced in this “Silicon Valley of Asia”.

Even with the allure of the Facebook name and its partnership with Oculus, a forerunner in VR, it seems to this writer that HTC is turning into the face of VR with their multiple investments and efforts to promulgate VR to all corners of the technological front.
