The Pixel isn’t alone anymore. Asus has released one of the first additions to the Google Daydream ecosystem – the Zenphone AR will be Daydream and Tango ready.
Daydream is Google’s mobile VR platform that utilizes a Google-designed headset, the View, that’s simple and comfortable, and works best with Daydream certified handsets like the Pixel. Tango on the other hand is a platform that utilizes depth cameras and motion sensors to position and track a user accurately for the best augmented reality experience.
The Zenphone AR uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 SoC and should have enough power to run mobile VR smoothly. This is paired with a massive 8GB of RAM and a 5.7″ screen. The camera subsystem is also most impressive, with a 23 MP main camera partnered with both a depth camera and motion sensing camera – prerequisites for Tango compatibility.
No additional details are available as of yet, but CES 2017 should reveal more. Stay tuned.
