For many folks, Samsung is the first name they relate to the words “virtual reality headset”, not HTC or Oculus. As the first affordable, consumer oriented quality mobile headset readily available, Samsung is moving quickly to maintain its enviable position, with their release of their new Gear VR Headset.
The most notable new feature of this new release is the inclusion of a wireless controller in the new headset, though said controller can be purchased separately if you already own the original Samsung Gear headset.
Additionally, Oculus is promising a three-fold decrease in app loading times on Samsung Gear VR, making the gaming experience faster and more spontaneous. Overall, a worthwhile update for a pre-order price of $129.99 for both the headset and the controller. Interested customers can expect its release on April 21.
