360degree livestreaming is now available to anyone with a Facebook account and a 360 degree camera.
This new feature is based on Facebook’s Facebook Live feature, the social media company’s answer to real time sharing competition like Twitter and Youtube. As a repository for 360 videos online, Facebobok is nearly unmatched in this regard; Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg is giving full support for this feature, which makes sense with Facebook’s involvement in Oculus and VR technology in general.
There’s a couple of cameras already supported for this feature – it’s a shame though that the Ricoh Theta series isn’t included. Perhaps it’s in the works.
Facebook has included some tips and tricks in live360 webpage, including a mention of adding spatial audio to producers’ videos, positioning the camera correctly, and making sure there’s strong internet connectivity. Check out the page to get yourself started.
