Kids of the 90’s might know about the classic anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. Bandai-Namco, the company that owns the rights to the franchise, has backed “Project I Can” in creating a VR experience called “Evangelion VR: The throne of Souls”, wherein users can pilot a VR Eva using an HTC Vive and a custom cockpit.
Project I Can will introduce both the experience and the customized “entry plug” (the in-anime term for the Eva cockpit) in a newly revealed VR arcade facility at Shinjuku, Tokyo. The cockpit will also feature specialized joystick controllers to simulate the experience of the anime entry plug.
The arcade experience will have users fight against the featured enemies in the anime series called “angels”, and will support cooperative play and adapt in-anime technologies into the experience to dazzle fans and new users alike.
